Mook Yan Jong

View in High Definition

Wing Chun's Mook Yan Jong (Wooden Dummy) form as demonstrated by Chief Instructor Len Hollis.

View in High Definition

The Wooden Dummy represents the ultimate opponent; it can't be hurt, pushed or pulled off balance. Instead, the Wing Chun exponent must be able to move around it and strike it with maximum force.

In the first demonstration, the opponent initiates an attack with a low straight punch to the mid-section and follows up with a straight punch to the head. Applying a movement from the Wooden Dummy form, the Wing Chun exponent deflects the lower punch with a lower bong sau while deflecting the higher punch with a pak sau followed by a side-slash to the opponent's armpit and a Wing Chun side-kick to the opponent's knee.

In the second demonstration, the opponent initiates a neck grab which is deflected by a double garn sau to the arms, a simultaneous pivot of the body and a thrust kick to the opponent's body.

Although the idea is to strike the dummy with maximum force, the Wooden Dummy form is performed softly and in a relaxed manner.
