Affiliated Schools Programme
The International Wing Chun Academy's Affiliated Schools Programme provides a lucrative opportunity for those wishing to open their own Wing Chun schools and reap the benefits of the Academy's longstanding reputation in the martial arts, education, health and fitness industries.
All International Wing Chun Academy-qualified Instructors of Level 1 standard and above are eligible to apply to become Affiliates of the Academy. A student may become an Instructor of the Academy by progressing through the Academy's Grading System and completing the Academy's Trainee Instructor Course.
Please note that this page intends only to give a brief overview of the Affiliated Schools Programme and nothing on this page shall form part of the Licence Agreement for Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu® (referred to generally as the 'Affiliate Agreement'). You should seek independent financial and legal advice before making any commitment or entering into the Affiliate Agreement.
Benefits of Affiliating
Licence to teach Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®
Affiliated Schools receive a licence to teach Grandmaster Jim Fung's unique training programme, Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®, and use its Grading System exclusively within an agreed territory for the duration of the Affiliate Agreement. Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu® has been endorsed by the world's leading authority on Wing Chun, Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin, and has produced many highly skilled Wing Chun exponents, such as the Academy's Senior and Chief Instructors.
Official Certification of Students
Upon successful completion of a Grading, students of the Affiliate will receive official certification in the form of a Grading Certificate and Badge subject to payment of the Grading Fee set out in the Schedule of the Affiliate Agreement.
Customisable Affiliated School Web Page
Affiliated Schools receive their own customisable page on the Academy's website. This page allows the Affiliate to post vital information about their Affiliated School, such as:
- Training Location and Contact Details (including a link to an external website if required)
- General Information
- Instructor Profiles (including headshots and biographies)
- Class Prices
- Class Timetables
- Photo Gallery
These features may be updated through an easy-to-use interface which requires no web development knowledge to use. Your customisable page will be visible on the Academy's Affiliated Schools page.
As well as being convenient and easy to update, the customisable page also allows the Affiliate to directly benefit from the Academy's strong web presence as the number one result for 'Wing Chun' searches on all major search engines (Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Bing).^ The Academy's website also ranks highly for many other related keywords and the Academy spends a significant amount of money on online advertising and marketing each year to maintain its web presence. By being housed within the Academy's own website, your customisable page will not only become accessible to the thousands of unique weekly visitors to the Academy's website, but may also rank highly in searches for other related keywords.^^ Considering the high costs of online advertising and the difficulty of ranking highly among highly saturated keywords like 'Wing Chun', the customisable page represents tremendous value for the Affiliate.
^Accurate at the time of writing (December 2010) and when accessing the abovementioned search engines from an Australian computer. Please be aware that rankings may fluctuate from time to time.
^^As of the time of writing, all Affiliated Schools of the Academy appeared on the first page of Google when searching for the phrase 'Wing Chun' with the name of the suburb in which they are located. The Academy cannot guarantee that the Affiliate's customisable page will rank highly on any search engine for any keyword or keyphrase.
The International Wing Chun Academy recognises the membership of all Affiliated School students and current students of Affiliates may transfer to an Academy Headquarters or Branch and use their remaining Annual Membership. They may also continue training at the Grade or Level they attained at the Affiliate subject to the Academy's Absence Policy. Transfer between Affiliated Schools is also possible, subject to the student obtaining a Letter of Release from their current Affiliated School.
Current Affiliated School students may also access selected seminars and workshops at the Academy. Fees may apply.
There are numerous other benefits of running an Affiliated School, including the ability to derive income from referring students to an Academy Headquarters for Gradings. To find out more, please contact us!

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
There is a one-off establishment fee of $1,980 AUD (including GST).
This fee has been kept low in comparison to other Licence Agreements in the martial arts, health and fitness industries to help Affiliates minimise their start-up costs.
To license Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®, a per-student Affiliate Subscription Fee (paid annually from Annual Membership) and Monthly Student Fee are payable. Assuming that the Affiliate charges fees comparable to the Academy's NSW Suburban Branch fees, the combined Affiliate Subscription Fee and Monthly Student Fee payable to the Academy in one year may equate to no more than 5.55% of combined Annual Membership and Training Fee revenue earned by the Affiliate in that year.^
There is also a quarterly Website Fee of $45 AUD (including GST) and periodic Grading Fees which vary depending on the Grade or Level of the Grading and whether the Affiliate or the International Wing Chun Academy conducts the Grading.
A 12.5% fee is charged on revenue generated through School / Corporate Courses and Private Lessons.
Other fees which may be payable are a Sale Fee (if the Affiliate sells its business) and Proximity Fee (if the Affiliate establishes within 15km of an established Academy Headquarters or Branch). Please refer to the Affiliate Agreement for more information.
^This figure is a rough estimate only. Please refer to the Affiliate Agreement for a specific Schedule of fees payable.
Does the Academy charge a 'finder's fee' or commission on students it refers to Affiliated Schools?
Absolutely not. If the Academy receives an enquiry from a potential student who lives away from an Academy Headquarters or Branch but near an Affiliated School, the Academy will pass on the contact details of the Affiliated School in the potential student's area.
Is the Affiliate Programme a franchising arrangement?
No, the Affiliate Programme is a Licence Agreement under which the Affiliate receives a licence to teach Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu® and use its Grading System, as well as certain promotional benefits in exchange for payments made pursuant to the Schedule of the Affiliate Agreement.
Affiliated Schools are independently owned and operated and it is the individual responsibility of the Affiliate to comply in the conduct of its business with all applicable laws, by-laws and regulations of a governmental nature applicable to the business or its conduct, such as applying for an ABN, taking out and maintaining appropriate insurances and fulfilling their taxation obligations. You should consult a business advisor and the Australian Government's website, http://www.business.gov.au, for more information.
What is the term of the contract?
For new Affiliates, the initial term is 2 years. After this time, a new Affiliate Agreement must be entered into. The Establishment Fee will not be charged twice. Please refer to the Affiliate Agreement for more information.
Do I have to own my own premises?
No, you may lease or rent appropriate premises for conducting classes provided that they are approved by all relevant authorities for their intended use. Please refer to the Affiliate Agreement for more information.
Do I need insurance?
Yes, it is the Affiliate's responsibility to take out and maintain all insurances, including public liability insurance and any other insurances which would be prudent to maintain. Please refer to the Affiliate Agreement for more information.
Where may I establish my Affiliated School?
You may theoretically establish your Affiliated School anywhere in the world outside of the territories of the International Wing Chun Academy and its established Affiliated Schools. If you establish your Affiliated School within 15km of an established Academy Headquarters or Branch, a Proximity Fee will be payable calculated as a percentage of total fee revenue. Please refer to the Affiliate Agreement for more information.
