Historical Timeline

The International Wing Chun Academy is one of the longest established martial arts schools in Australia. This timeline summarises the Academy's history from its establishment by Grandmaster Jim Fung in 1973 to the present day.

1973

Grandmaster Jim Fung opens the 'CK Martial Arts School' in Adelaide, South Australia.

1981

Grandmaster Fung's first book, 'Wing Chun Kung Fu', is published and his Academy changes its name.

1984

Grandmaster Fung publishes 'The Authentic Wing Chun Weapons' and the Academy opens a new HQ in Sydney, New South Wales.

1985

Grandmaster Fung's video, 'Wing Chun', is released.

1987

Commendation by the Guangzhou Martial Arts Council.

1988

Grandmaster Fung is chosen as the sole representative of Australian Kung Fu to take part in the International Grandmasters Martial Arts Exhibition in Adelaide.

1989

The Academy becomes the first Australian martial arts school to offer Nationally Recognised Training for full-time students.

1997

The International Wing Chun Academy is included in 'Blitz' magazine's Hall of Fame.

1998

The Academy receives official recognition from the Chinese Government.

1999

Master Jim Fung is conferred the title, 'Grandmaster'.

2000

The Academy sets up its third Headquarters in Queensland.

2003

The Academy celebrates its 30th Anniversary.

2007

Grandmaster Fung passes away.

2008

The DVD, 'Grandmaster Jim Fung's Memorial Service', is released.

2009

The Academy launches its new website and image.

2011

The Academy launches its new Affiliated Schools Programme and Trainee Instructor Course.
