Academy Rules

The International Wing Chun Academy seeks to provide a safe, positive and inclusive training environment to students of all ages and genders.

While enrolled at the Academy, you agree to:

Code of Respect

  • Refer to the Master as Sifu Jim and address all trainers by their correct titles.
  • Bow to the Masters when entering and leaving the Academy, and before and after each class.
  • Stand quietly in stance with your fists pulled back when being taught.
  • Show respect to all Academy members at all times.
  • Respect the boundaries of other members and refrain from making unsolicited advances.
  • Not engage in any form of bullying, discrimination, harassment or otherwise aggressive or offensive behaviour.

Code of Conduct

  • Participate conscientiously in the entire class, including the warm-up and workout/warm-down.
  • Arrive on time for class. If you are late, you must complete a supervised warm-up for no less than 10 minutes before being allowed to join the class. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will not be permitted to join the class.
  • Refrain from engaging in individual (except forms) or group training while a class is in progress.
  • Refrain from disrupting or distracting students who are participating in a class.
  • Take reasonable care to avoid damaging Academy property. You may be liable for the costs of repair/replacement of property that is intentionally or recklessly damaged by you.
  • Cooperate with the reasonable directions of all Academy employees and trainers acting in the performance of their duties.

Uniform and Student Card Requirements

  • Wear full uniform from the Grade 1 Intermediate group onward.
  • Wear appropriate footwear. Bare feet or shoes with hard or high-traction soles are not permitted.
  • Present your student card with a valid photo attached before each class.

Safety and Hygiene

  • Take reasonable care to minimise the risk of injury to yourself and others at all times.
  • Remove all jewellery and accessories before class and keep your nails cut short.
  • Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, wear clean uniform and use light-scented deodorant if necessary. Please refrain from using strong-smelling deodorant or fragrances.
  • Refrain from training if you are sick and until you have fully recovered.

Conditions of Entry to Academy Premises

  • Refrain from chewing gum, smoking, vaping or eating anywhere on Academy premises.
  • Turn off or silence your mobile phone, electronic and personal communication devices.
  • Not enter or remain on Academy premises while under the influence of any substance.
  • Not advertise, promote or solicit any goods or services.
  • Not take photos, videos or sound recordings on Academy premises.
  • Not bring large items, such as bicycles or scooters, into Academy premises.
  • Abide by the full 'Terms and Conditions of Entry' posted at the entrance to the Academy.
