Adelaide HQ Grand Reopening Ceremony

The Academy’s newly renovated Adelaide HQ will be officially opened on Saturday, the 20th of February 2010. The celebrations will commence at 11am sharp and will include dynamic Wing Chun demonstrations, lion dancing and other Chinese themed entertainment. Representatives of Adelaide’s Chinese community, martial arts groups and SA Government sport and education departments have been invited to attend.

A highlight of the festivities will be a special presentation to Chief Instructors Albert Chong and Gary King by Senior Instructor Tristan Fung, who is travelling from Sydney with Simo Linda Fung especially for the opening.

The renovations commenced in July and initially work was expected to be completed within 10 weeks. However, because of the age of the premises and other unexpected obstacles, work dragged on into the New Year. The work included building a new classroom, office, kitchen and reception area. A new ceiling, lighting and air-conditioning were installed along with new windows at the front of the building, new floor coverings and improvements to the toilets, showers and changing rooms.

The office and classroom have since been equipped with new furniture and computer equipment.

Special care was taken to ensure that the iconic stork and rodent mural, which has decorated a wall in the main training area since the school opened at Gouger Street in 1981, was retained.
