Instructor Course

Our Instructor Course is your chance to take your Wing Chun to the next level while learning professional coaching, leadership and martial arts instruction skills.

You can apply for this course if you have achieved a Grade 3 standard or above in Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®.

This course features a mix of online and in-person learning, making it easy for you to study at your own pace.

A Message From Your Course Convenor

My father, Sifu Jim Fung, said that teaching is the only way to gain a complete understanding of the Wing Chun system.

One of the best decisions I've ever made was completing the Instructor Course as a teenager. Soon after completing the course, I noticed substantial improvements in my Wing Chun abilities, communication skills, growth mindset and self-confidence. When it came time to apply for university and work, it also proved to be a valuable addition to my CV.

Now that I teach the Instructor Course, I'm proud to share its immense benefits with our students. 2026 Instructor Course

• Location: Online and in-person*
• Commencement Date: TBA
• Workload: 5-10 hours of online coursework and four in-person sessions, including the Practical Exam

Course Format

This course features a mix of online and in-person training, allowing you to study when it suits you.

The course will conclude with an online theory exam and an in-person assessment.

Course Overview

Through an engaging and interactive course, you will learn about topics such as:

• The history of Wing Chun and the Academy
• The role of the martial arts instructor
• Coaching, leadership and communication skills
• Conducting safe and effective exercise
• Grandmaster Jim Fung's unique teaching method
• The fundamentals of our Wing Chun system

By the end of the course, you will have acquired excellent coaching, leadership and martial arts instruction skills and an enhanced knowledge of our Wing Chun system.

Once you've completed the Instructor Course and qualified as a Trainee Instructor (Red Sash), you will have the opportunity to develop your skills further by teaching at the Academy.

As a Trainee Instructor, you will gain:

• Up to a 50% subsidy of your membership fees for assisting with classes*
• Invaluable teaching experience from one of the world's top Wing Chun schools
• A deeper understanding of the Wing Chun system
• Access to the Advanced Classes taught by the Academy's top instructors^

* Appointment to a teaching role is at the Academy's sole discretion.
^ You must be Grade 4 or above to attend the Advanced Classes.

Tuition Fees

You may choose to pay your course fee upfront or through fortnightly instalments.

Course fees are inclusive of GST.

Advancing to Instructor Rank

To advance to Instructor rank (Blue Sash), you must:

• Complete the Instructor Course
• Assist with at least one class per week
• Regularly attend Advanced Classes - you must attend at least 10 Advanced Classes after your Level 1 Grading to be eligible for promotion
• Achieve Level 1 standard in Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®
• Pass an 'Instructor (Blue Sash) Assessment'

Once you become an Instructor of the Academy, you will gain:

• Up to a 100% subsidy of your membership and Grading fees for assisting with classes*
• The same discount on membership fees for up to three immediate family members
• Invaluable teaching experience from one of the world's top Wing Chun schools
• A deeper understanding of the Wing Chun system
• Access to the Advanced Classes taught by the Academy's top instructors
• Ongoing guidance and mentorship from the Academy's top instructors
• The opportunity to apply to open an Affiliated School through the Academy's Affiliated Schools Programme
