Instructor's Pledge
To the International Wing Chun Academy,
In acceptance of my privileges and responsibilities as an instructor, I pledge to:
- Be an outstanding representative of Sifu Jim and the Academy.
- Safely coach and encourage students to high levels of ability in Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®.
- Be a leader, role model and source of inspiration to students.
- Build students' confidence in Grandmaster Jim Fung's Wing Chun Kung Fu®.
- Foster the Academy's community.
I also pledge to:
- Uphold and abide by:
- Sifu Jim Fung's Code of Ethics
- The MAIA Code of Ethics
- The Academy Rules
- Arrive early and be present for the entire duration of all classes that I teach.
- Wear the correct uniform, including my sash and Grading badge, in clean and presentable condition.
- Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and cleanliness and a polite, friendly and approachable manner.
- Follow the Academy's teaching practices and Sifu Jim's teaching methods at all times.
- Set an appropriate tone, pace and level of intensity for my assigned group.
- Carefully supervise students and take reasonable care to minimise all foreseeable risks of injury.
- Hold myself accountable for my conduct and continuously strive to improve as both an instructor and student.
- Continue to develop my skills by regularly attending Wing Chun classes, Advanced Classes and periodic teaching workshops.
- Avoid engaging in any behaviour that may be deemed antisocial, discriminatory, violent or aggressive, conflicts with my responsibilities or presents a conflict of interest with the Academy.
- Adhere to and support the Academy's policies and procedures, including its Child Safe Policy.
- Maintain a current and valid Working With Children Check, and provide the Training Supervisor with an updated Working With Children Check when my current one expires.
If I am unable to attend a class that I have committed to teach, I agree to:
- Provide the Academy with at least two weeks' notice.
- Make a genuine attempt to find another suitable instructor to teach the class.
- In the event of illness or misadventure, notify the Academy as soon as possible.
I understand that my failure to uphold this pledge or a breach of my broader responsibilities as an instructor may result in the revocation of my teaching status.
